Research Interests

Generation and spectroscopic characterization of radicals and (metal-) clusters, nonlinear spectroscopic techniques, thermodynamics and kinetics of chemical reactions relevant to combustion and catalysis processes, state-specific collisional energy transfer, molecular beams, mass spectrometry

Research Assignments at PSI (since 1990)

• Evaluation and set up of the molecular beam apparatus
• Setup and head of the external laser diagnostic laboratory in Zurich-Altstetten
• Planar laser-induced fluorescence of OH in a 100 kW oil-burning furnace
• Profile measurements of sulfur species in flames
• Supervision of Ph.D. students
• Chemistry of the initial steps of the soot formation
• Generation and characterization of radicals and (metal-) clusters in the controlled environment of the molecular beam apparatus
• Development of degenerate and two-color four-wave mixing in flames and molecular beams
• Investigation of collision-induced resonances in two-color resonant four-wave mixing
• Spectroscopic characterization of radicals by linear and nonlinear methods
• Exploring the complex electronic structure of small transition metal species by non-linear double-resonance spectroscopy in a molecular beam environment
